Once again the Hindolveston Village Screen embarks on a new season. Films are shown on the third Saturday of every month in the Village Hall, which is transformed for the evening into your local Roxy. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 7.30 - those in the know get there early to get their favourite position and they bring a cushion for added comfort. The bar is open for drinks and the ice cream lady has a selection of delights.

Tickets are £4, with a season ticket for all four films at £12.

On Easter Saturday, as the final film of the season, we present:

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

A fantastic animation - much appreciated by adults and smaller people alike. There will be an afternoon matinee at 2 p.m. for 2.30 screening - the bargain price of £3 and £2 for children

There will also be an evening performance at the usual price of £4.

It is advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment and this can be done by purchasing from Parker’s Garage in Hindolveston, ringing 01263 860583 or via e-mail (see link on the right).

This is the new (four times Oscar nominated version) staring Kiera Knightly. Ever fresh, it is a sumptuous recreation of Georgian England and the trials of a mother of five daughters.

Well worth seeing on the big screen. Book ahead to ensure a ticket - I'm pleased to report that the last two productions have been sell outs.

Saturday 18th February (7.00 for 7.30) The Go-Between. The long hot summer of 1900, an interwoven tale of class, romance and a young boy’s sexual awakening. From the novel by LP Hartley, with a screenplay by Harold Pinter. Filmed on location at Melton Constable Hall, featuring at least one familiar local face.

Saturday 18th March (7.00 for 7.30) Pride and Prejudice. The blockbuster newest version of the Austen classic. Starring Kiera Knightly

Saturday 15th April Wallace and Gromit: the curse of the Were Rabbit. Children’s Matinee 2.00 for 2.30 Evening performance 7.00 for 7.30. Children’s matinee at a reduced price of £3. (Children must be accompanied by an adult).

Tickets are £4 (except for matinee – see above) but a season ticket can be purchased for £12, giving the wonderful bargain of 4 films for the price 3!

This Martin Scorsese film is extraordinary. It was nominated for eleven Oscars, won five and won three Golden Globes - including Best Film and Best Actor.

After inheriting great wealth, Hughes lived an extraordinary life, setting out to dominate Hollywood and the skies before becoming a notorious recluse. Leonardo DiCaprio proves an ideal choice for the tarnished American hero.

The drama recounts the years of his life from the late 1920s through the 1940s, when Hughes was directing and producing Hollywood movies and test flying innovative aircrafts he designed and created.

The Aviator follows Hughes life, loves, achievements and shortcomings. The biographical drama explores his love affairs with Hollywood legends Katherine Hepburn and Ava Gardner, and his life-long friendship with his right-hand-man, Noah Dietrich. An airplane crash and his phobias, combined to lead Hughes to withdraw from the world until his death as a mysterious, eccentric hermit.

The film is 170 minutes. There will be a short interval.

A female Full Monty, based on a true story about middle-aged women posing nude for charity. Julie Walters and Helen Mirren star.

In 1999, 11 women from a Women's Institute branch in the north of England bucked the quaint cake-baking and flower-arranging image of the WI when they posed naked for a charity calendar. That was novel enough. But the fact that they were raising money for the hospital where one of their husbands had died of leukaemia - and that the naked ladies were aged between 50 and 70 - made them internationally known.
Calendar Girls, which is based on their story, is one of those films that Britain does so well: bittersweet without being overly sentimental, and with lashings of good honest humour. The names have been changed, the experiences and characteristics of the real women apparently chopped up and shared around; but essentially this is a faithful account of their experience, with lashings of feel-good moments. There is also a wary look at the way in which celebrity put pressures on these women, whose idea of the spotlight hitherto had been to enter their jam sponge in the local fête.
